Antonio Conte leaves Tottenham with bitter relationship with players
Tottenham’s poor performances and results were not the only cause for the departure of Antonio Conte. The final straw for the Italian manager was his outburst against his players following a draw with Southampton. As the North London side start their search for a new manager, they will no doubt be conducting an inquest into what went wrong under Conte’s reign.
With players convinced that the defensive tactics were to blame for the poor form, Conte set an emergency meeting at the end of January to solve the problem. In the meeting, he left the players to find the solution themselves. The players’ feedback led to a run of five wins in six matches as the shackles were loosened. However, Tottenham’s performances since then have still not met the required level set by fans and the board.
According to the Daily Mail, Conte’s insistence that players run 2km before each match could be a possible cause for the slow start in matches under the Italian. Additionally, Conte’s habit of moving the scheduled start times of training sessions did not go down well, and it was another factor in the breakdown of the relationship between players and management.
While Tottenham is still searching for a new manager, one thing is clear – Conte’s tenure with the club has damaged his relationship with players beyond repair.
