Borussia Dortmund Offers Contract Extension to Julian Brandt as Arsenal and Tottenham Keep Tabs
German attacking midfielder Julian Brandt has reportedly been offered a contract extension by Borussia Dortmund. This news comes as a blow to Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, who had been closely monitoring the player’s status.
Brandt has contributed nine goals and five assists to Dortmund’s 34 games in all competitions so far this season, earning him the contract extension offer. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has stated that discussions are underway for the length of his extension and salary at Signal Iduna Park, and the 26-year-old’s current deal expires in 2024.
In March, rumours were rife that both Arsenal and Tottenham were focusing on a possible move for Brandt in the summer, with the player himself reportedly keen on a switch to the Premier League and a preference for a London club if he does eventually depart from Dortmund.
Kai Havertz, who plays for Chelsea, is a close friend of Brandt’s. Despite this, Dortmund is determined not to let him leave and is working hard to convince him to extend his stay. Brandt’s impressive performances earned him a place in Germany’s World Cup squad in Qatar, although he did not make an appearance off the bench. Currently, Dortmund is placed second on the Bundesliga points table, two points behind Bayern Munich in their quest for their first league title since 2012.
