Brighton’s Amy Merricks aims to alter the image of women in football.

Meet Amy Merricks, the youngest-serving manager in the Women’s Super League (WSL), who is determined to “change the perception of females in a male-dominated sport”. Merricks, Brighton’s interim manager, is undergoing her second spell as the interim coach this season. Mentored by former England manager Hope Powell, Merricks aspires to become a senior head coach and impact the game in a wider capacity. Passionate about changing attitudes towards women’s football, she aims to develop female coaches, develop players, and showcase the game in a better light. In November, the Football Association set an aim for 75% of female coaches to hold manager or head coach roles. Merricks acknowledges that it is tough for female coaches to get opportunities, but hopes that the more people, specifically those passionate about the women’s game, get involved, the better.
