Leaked documents expose the intriguing link between Roman Abramovich, the former owner of Chelsea, and the Dutch team Vitesse Arnhem. Shockingly, the Russian billionaire secretly financed the takeover and running of Vitesse Arnhem, spending a staggering £102.8MILLION in loans during his tenure at Stamford Bridge. Abramovich’s involvement in Vitesse Arnhem’s takeover has been revealed by the Oligarch Files, a dossier of leaked data. Marindale Trading, owned by Alexander Chigirinsky, an associate of Abramovich, aided the takeover. Despite rumours of Abramovich’s involvement, when the takeover occurred in 2010, Jordania insisted the Chelsea owner wasn’t involved. However, after Chelsea loaned 29 players to Vitesse, including Mason Mount and Nemanja Matic, as well as Armando Broja, Abramovich’s links became more apparent. Doubts about the connection resurfaced after Chigirinsky took full control in 2013, and UEFA investigated alleged managerial influence before being satisfied that the situation didn’t require further review. While Chelsea and Abramovich’s lawyer didn’t comment, Vitesse maintained it was unaware of Marindale’s financing arrangements.
