Crystal Palace Stuns Leeds United with a 5-1 Victory in the Premier League
Last Sunday, Roy Hodgson’s second spell as manager started off on a high note with Crystal Palace securing their second win in a row, upsetting Leeds United with an impressive 5-1 victory at Elland Road in the Premier League.
The 75-year-old’s appointment had raised many eyebrows for being a short-term replacement for Patrick Vieira in March. Surprisingly, Hodgson’s impressive impact made this decision seem like a stroke of genius.
The Palace side had shown its emerging prowess last weekend when they came from behind to beat Leicester 2-1 at Selhurst Park, managing 31 shots on target. Building on this victory, Hodgson’s squad followed up with a spectacular performance, scoring five goals at Leeds.
Despite conceding a goal to Patrick Bamford in the 21st minute, Palace made a comeback when Marc Guehi levelled in added time at the end of the first half. In the second half, Hodgson’s squad displayed absolute dominance with Michael Olise grabbing three assists for Palace’s goals, and Jordan Ayew, Eberechi Eze and Odsonne Eduoard all scoring goals.
The second-half surge resulted in Palace scoring five goals in the Premier League away from home for only the second time in history. Palace now has two wins and seven goals under their belt since Hodgson’s return, the same amount of goals they scored in their past 15 matches in the competition combined.
