Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is determined to strengthen his squad to improve their chances to take the team to the next level. Despite investing in excess of £250million in signings since taking charge in October 2021, Howe is aware that adding proven winners to the squad comes at a high cost. Ahead of their clash with Manchester United, who won against them in the Carabao Cup final earlier this year, Howe recognizes the importance of experience in players, which often comes with a high price tag. He also highlights the importance of a blend of players with varying degrees of experience and youth.
As Newcastle head into the game sitting fifth in the Premier League table, Howe’s pressure is different from last season’s relegation battle; nevertheless, he still has to alleviate his team’s pressure to excel. His fitness regime, which includes weightlifting and cardio, keeps him in the right frame of mind to tackle his work. Although he jokes that he may not look like someone who lifts weights, Howe values the importance of fitness and exercise for his physical and mental wellbeing.
