Inter Miami’s Struggle Continues with 4th MLS Defeat, Yerson Mosquera Secures 1-0 Win for FC Cincinnati
Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham, faced their fourth straight loss in the MLS season with a 1-0 defeat against FC Cincinnati on Saturday night. Yerson Mosquera’s header in stoppage time of the first half secured the win for Cincinnati, leaving the opposing team desperate for a goal. FC Cincinnati, now with 14 points, moved to first place and remains the only undefeated team in the Eastern Conference, while Inter Miami struggles with just six points.
Roman Celentano, FC Cincinnati’s goalkeeper, made three saves and recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season. Despite Miami’s efforts, Drake Callendar also made three saves, but failed to keep a clean sheet, preventing a draw. Although Miami had a chance to equalize in the second half, Franco Negri’s left-footed shot ricocheted off the crossbar.
FC Cincinnati’s Mosquera, who scored his first MLS goal, took advantage of a corner kick from Alvaro Barreal to head the ball towards the Miami goal. Inter Miami even had an opportunity to tie the match, but Negri’s shot hit the crossbar in the 65th minute.
This win added to Cincinnati’s 9-1-9 record dating back to the last season. Even though Brandon Vazquez managed to get five career goals in seven matches against Miami, he couldn’t find the back of the net this time.
In a controversial moment of the game, Marco Angulo’s tackle on Rodolfo Pizarro was reviewed, which changed the decision of awarding a penalty kick to Inter Miami as the contact appeared to be marginally outside the box.
The fourth consecutive defeat of Inter Miami is a new challenge for Phil Neville, their coach, and co-owner David Beckham. The much-hyped team now has the responsibility to boost their game and make a comeback.
