“Frank Lampard appointed as Chelsea manager until the conclusion of the current season.”

Frank Lampard Returns to Chelsea as Caretaker Manager Until Season End

Chelsea FC surprised football fans today by announcing that club legend Frank Lampard has been appointed caretaker manager until the end of the season. This move comes as no shock to pundits and fans alike, after recent speculation and rumors intensified, especially after Lampard was spotted at Stamford Bridge for the match against Liverpool on Tuesday, as reported by FourFourTwo.

Following a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend, former Blues caretaker manager Graham Potter left Chelsea by mutual consent, leaving the side languishing in mid-table despite investing heavily in new players. Midweek, coach Bruno Saltor took charge of the team.

Lampard’s first games as caretaker manager will be against Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday, followed by a Champions League quarter-final trip to Real Madrid on Wednesday.

The statement from co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said: “We are delighted to welcome Frank back to Stamford Bridge. Frank is a Premier League Hall of Famer and a legend at this club. As we continue our thorough and exhaustive process for a permanent head coach, we want to provide the club and our fans with a clear and stable plan for the remainder of the season. We want to give ourselves every chance of success, and Frank has all the characteristics and qualities we need to drive us to the finish line.”

Despite some big name managers currently without a job, including Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann, and Zinedine Zidane, the Stamford Bridge club decided to bring back Lampard, whose previous tenure ended in 2021, where he was replaced by Thomas Tuchel, who led Chelsea to Champions League victory four months later. Lampard’s prior managerial experience includes a year with Everton, which ended in January 2023, where he was then replaced by Sean Dyche.
