Gary Lineker expresses gratitude to supporters in a statement following £4.9million tax appeal victory against HMRC.

Gary Lineker rejoices over tax win against HMRC worth £4.9 million

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has won a tax appeal worth £4.9 million against HMRC. Lineker was being pursued for this sum due to the government’s IR35 legislation, which aims to prevent disguised employees from charging services via limited companies. However, Judge John Brooks ruled that Lineker was not a disguised employee but rather an employee of both the BBC and BT Sport via direct contracts, so the IR35 legislation did not apply. Lineker took to Twitter to thank fans for their congratulatory messages and to state that he had not failed to pay taxes or National Insurance based on the IR35 rules.
