Had I joined Man City instead of Manchester United, we would have won the Champions League, says Alexis Sanchez.

Alexis Sanchez Claims He Would Have Won Champions League with Manchester City Over Manchester United

Alexis Sanchez, the Chile international who left Arsenal in 2018 to join rivals Manchester United, revealed his regret in choosing United over City despite penning a lucrative £375,000-a-week deal. Sanchez, who struggled to settle at United and scored just three Premier League goals in two seasons, believes that had he chosen City, they would have won the Champions League by now. Addressing the controversial decision, Sanchez commented, “It wasn’t a money thing, so everyone knows. It was the same with United and City.”

“I was about to go to City. I spoke to Guardiola every day, he told me happy birthday. He was like my dad. He was my dad at Barcelona and he was like my dad at City.”

Sanchez cited his frequent chats with City’s coach Pep Guardiola before choosing United as his destination, stating that they talked every day, and the move was almost finalised until his agent informed him of Wenger’s decision to cancel the deal. In hindsight, Sanchez regrets his move, commenting, “I don’t regret going to United, things happen for a reason. I would have liked to have gone to City, yes.”

In his current team Marseille, Sanchez has rekindled his goalscoring touch and has already scored 16 times this season. Nevertheless, he can’t help imagining what he could have accomplished if he had joined City, saying, “We would have won the Champions League by now. In the [2021 Champions League] final I would have done something.”
