Wigan Athletic Chairman Apologises for Payment Delays

Wigan Athletic Chairman Talal Al Hammad has issued an apology after the club failed to pay players on time this month, resulting in a three-point deduction from the English Football League Championship. The delay was blamed on liquidity issues. Al Hammad confirmed on the club’s website that players have now been paid, and added that the situation “would never happen again”. He thanked the fans for their patience and promised transparency and clarity regarding the situation, thanking outgoing Chief Executive Mal Brannigan for his work. Defender Steven Caulker, however, launched a scathing attack on the club on LinkedIn, claiming that players had been lied to and that the delays were “completely unacceptable”.
