‘It would be a miracle’ – Sarina Wiegman acknowledges Beth Mead’s unlikely World Cup readiness.

England manager Sarina Wiegman reveals challenging news for fans of the Lionesses as she admits it’s highly unlikely that Beth Mead will be able to recover from her ACL injury in time for the World Cup. Mead, who won the Golden Boot at the European Championships, had hoped to be in top shape for the tournament in Australia and New Zealand after sustaining her knee injury last November. Despite showing excellent progress in her rehabilitation, Wiegman has stated that Mead is currently out of their plans and that it would take a ‘miracle’ for her to be ready in time. Wiegman has also explained that Rachel Daly will be featured as a forward in the upcoming games against Brazil and Australia, indicating that the competition for center forwards is very high. With last Autumn’s Lauren Hemp also being a potential option, the England team still has a great chance of success, even without Mead.
