Jesus’ Resurrection on Easter Sunday sparks series of puns with Liverpool’s Anfield header

Gabriel Jesus Scores a Header for Arsenal against Liverpool on Easter Sunday

The Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus clinched a stunning header for Arsenal against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, triggering a spate of Easter jokes on social media.

The Gunners took the lead just eight minutes into the match as Gabriel Martinelli poked the ball home. Then, Gabriel Jesus scored a brilliant header just short of the 30-minute mark, doubling Arsenal’s lead.

“Jesus rises highest to head home,” proclaimed the official Twitter account of Arsenal.

Others soon followed. “Jesus rises to score on Easter Sunday,” tweeted journalist and Arsenal fan Chris Wheatley.

Arsenal dominated the game for most of the first half and looked set to go into the interval with a two-goal lead. However, Mohamed Salah pulled one back for Liverpool after 42 minutes, setting up an intriguing second half at Anfield.

If Arsenal wins, they will move eight points clear of Manchester City, having played one more match than last season’s champions. Meanwhile, Liverpool needs a win to level on points with seventh-placed Brighton.
