Julian Nagelsmann’s turbulent tenure as Bayern Munich boss has come to an end following a dressing room bust-up with Sadio Mane. The Senegalese forward was left fuming after being given a paltry eight minutes of game time against PSG in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on March 8. In front of shocked teammates, Mane confronted Nagelsmann, who appeared intimidated during the fiery altercation. The 35-year-old coach had waited until the 82nd minute to bring on Mane, with the Germans already 3-0 up on aggregate. Mane had applauded fans after the match, but his anger boiled over once he was behind closed doors. He has struggled for form and game time at Bayern, and under Nagelsmann, who was sacked despite leading the team to a domestic double last season, their play had become labored, flat, and lacking in control and ambition. Bayern’s hierarchy grew frustrated with the team’s recent high-profile losses, with some players supporting Nagelsmann’s dismissal while others like Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich disagreed. The German club is now counting on new manager Thomas Tuchel to right their ship. Mane will hope to revive his career at Bayern under Tuchel.
