Lionel Messi Scores Hattrick to Surpass 100-Goal Mark for Argentina in 7-0 Friendly Victory over Curacao
Lionel Messi scored a stunning hattrick to surpass the 100-goal mark for Argentina in their 7-0 victory over Curacao in an international friendly match.
The 35-year-old Argentine opened the scoring against the Caribbean team with a right-footed shot from the box’s edge to reach the milestone of 100 goals for his nation in the 20th minute. He added his 101st goal with a cross shot to the goalkeeper’s right and his 102nd after an effortless run to the goal.
Argentina led 5-0 at halftime, with Nico Gonzalez and Enzo Fernandez also scoring for the team.
Messi now trails only two players on the list of most goals scored for national teams in official matches – Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, who has 122 goals, and Iran’s Ali Daei, who has 109 goals.
This friendly match in Santiago del Estero is Argentina’s second since winning the World Cup in December.
