Liverpool Report: Reds and Chelsea Both Eyeing Star Italian Midfielder

Liverpool and Chelsea Eyeing Summer Move for Inter’s Nicolo Barella

Reports suggest that Liverpool and Chelsea are both considering a summer swoop for Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella. With Liverpool expected to rebuild their squad prior to the 2023/24 season, manager Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his options in the engine room, which has been a weakness this season. Meanwhile, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is likely to splash the cash again this summer, although competition for Barella is fierce. Inter are reportedly willing to sell the Italy international for £43.9m, a figure that should be achievable for both Liverpool and Chelsea. While Liverpool have made Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham their top transfer target, Barella could be a solid back-up option for the Reds. Furthermore, Chelsea, who have spent around £600m since Boehly completed his takeover, are in the bottom half of the Premier League table and may face competition for Barella. The 26-year-old would be a valuable acquisition due to his experience, having won the Serie A title with Inter in 2021.
