Luxembourg and Portugal Face Off in March 26, 2023 Football Match Report

Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Record with Another 2 Goals in Portugal’s 6-0 Win

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has done it again, scoring another 2 goals to lead Portugal to a 6-0 thumping of Luxembourg in a Euro 2024 qualifier on Sunday. This gives his country a second consecutive win in four days, highlighting his incredible form.

The 38-year-old veteran previously scored a brace against Liechtenstein before scoring two more in the recent win against Luxembourg, extending his own record-breaking international tally to 122 goals in 198 appearances.

Joao Felix, Bernando Silva, Otavio, and Rafael Leao also scored for Portugal, putting them at the top of Group J in what was an easy start to their qualifying campaign.

The new coach, Roberto Martinez, made the bold decision to put Cristiano Ronaldo back to the starting lineup last week and kept faith with him for the match in Luxembourg. It paid off almost immediately, as Ronaldo touched home Nuno Mendes‘s soaring header and scored the first goal of the match in just nine minutes.

The rest of the team stepped up as they continued to dominate, with Joao Felix doubling the lead in the 15th minute, and Silva scoring just three minutes later. Then came the fourth goal, thanks to a perfect ball from Bruno Fernandes for Ronaldo to finish with pin-point accuracy just past the half-hour mark.

In the second half, Luxembourg offered more resistance, but Portugal continued to dominate. Rafael Leao’s looping cross allowed fellow substitute Otavio to score the fifth, while Ruben Neves struck the crossbar with a stunning free-kick in the 83rd minute.

Leao was awarded a penalty straight after, and he stepped up to take it. Unfortunately, his effort was saved by Luxembourg keeper Anthony Moris. However, Leao redeemed himself, running half the length of the field to latch onto Reuben Neves’ pass and cut inside before squeezing the ball home for a 6-0 scoreline with only two minutes remaining.

This incredible win shows that Portugal is a force to be reckoned with in Euro 2024. With Cristiano Ronaldo in such great form, who knows what they might achieve?
