Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and George Russell admit that P5 is the best they can hope for in the upcoming Australian Grand Prix Qualifying. Following disappointing performances in the first two races of the 2023 season, Mercedes has pursued a new design philosophy. Despite a four-week break after this weekend’s Australian GP, Toto Wolff warns that Mercedes will not bring any major upgrades until the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in May. He also cautions that there will be no dramatic upturn in performance during the intervening races. The change is expected to take time, but Mercedes knows where they are heading.
