Pep Guardiola Responds to Claims of Lack of Respect During Manchester City’s Win against Liverpool
During Manchester City’s 4-1 win against Liverpool, Pep Guardiola celebrated Julian Alvarez’s goal jubilantly, in front of Liverpool’s walking substitute Kostas Tsimikas. But Guardiola was quick to defend his antics, sarcastically responding to a journalist in his post-match press conference.
In response to criticism of lacking respect, Guardiola retorted, “Ask him if I lack respect,” referring to Tsimikas. He explained that he was simply happy with the goal, stating, “I celebrate the goal, I celebrate with my son on the floor. I come and say ‘oh it was nice, isn’t it?’ That’s all.”
Despite some claims of provocation, the City boss offered a humorous defense of his behavior, and it didn’t appear to sour relations between the two sides with Liverpool crumbling away in the second half.
City’s Premier League title hopes remain alive with the win, but they still have some ground to make up as they sit eight points behind Arsenal, who thrashed Leeds 4-1 at the Emirates.
