I love this encyclopedia, it includes so many awesome plants. I will say that this book is very much aimed toward gardening applications, and is more for the home gardener than for botanical applications. I love the flower catalog, which is very fun and helpful to look through. The encyclopedia is useful, but since it is organized by scientific names instead of common names, you will need to know the scientific name of whatever plant you are trying to look up.

LOVE this book! The only negative I have is that the format is a little confusing to figure out. I would have liked the list of the common names in the front of the book instead of the back. Once I got use to how to look up a plant I find it very easy to use. Tons of wonderful information and beautiful photos. Definitely my first book to pick up when I am researching a plant.

An AMAZING, comprehensive addition to my gardening book library. The sheer amount of information contained in the 700+ pages is incredible. There is a plant selector section divided into 23 categories that recommends plants based on site, soil, sun/shade, purpose. The plant catalog section has plant portraits and descriptions of 4000 plants divided into groups: trees (including conifers), shrubs, roses, climbers and wall shrubs, perennials (including grasses, bamboos, rushes, sedges, and ferns), annuals, biennials, and bedding plants, rock plants, bulbs, water and bog plants, and tender and exotic plants. The plants dictionary section contains an additional 4000 recommended plants. This is a âkeep foreverâ book that Iâm sure that I will return to again and again to help me find the perfect plant for wherever I may need to put one.

First of all, this book is ENORMOUS. Itâs heavy, but for good reason. It is full of everything I can think of that would be useful to know about flower gardens. Beautiful photos and very clear and organized layout. I love it! Worth every penny.Somehow, I received a book that has an upside down hardcover. So bizarre. ð¤£The inside, when right side up, makes the cover upside down. I donât care to return it. Iâll just deal with it.

I love every book I’ve ever gotten from DK (Penguin Random House) Publishers. Their ability to make clean aesthetic concise and informative books is just breathtaking. This book is such a treasure. We have it on our coffee table because we’re avid gardeners and like to have the reference handy when dreaming up new projects.

I love plants and I love books! This was an all around great purchase! Itâs very sturdy, has great descriptions and beautiful imagery.

When I first opened this book and flipped through the pages, my jaw hit the floor. There is incredible value in this encyclopedia for the price point. There are thousands of informative pictures of each plant. Sections are designed by flower/plant color, so it’s extremely easy to locate the exact palette that you are looking for. Subsections include common “favorite” plants, such as pages devoted to dahlias or clematis or magnolias, and every page is filled with useful information without being overloaded. I highly recommend this book for amateur and professional gardeners alike.

I love â¤ï¸ this book for the illustrations, the layout of the plants and flowers and of course the index is right on point categorized perfectly for your understanding and what your looking for! Amazing ð¤©

I spend each late winter/early spring pouring myself over this book.I had the earlier copy [which I’ve practically worn out, so needed a new one.Thank you for the information and lovely photographs.

Every gardener needs this book! It contains almost every plant imaginable and some I’ve never heard of before. I will keep this book forever and refer to it often.

If I lived in the UK I would say this is the best garden book I ever saw but living in Canada it is not as good. They feature with photographs certain plants and varieties of plants that they think are particularly good but most of the plants they feature won’t grow well in Canada zone 5 or less. The book is still very interesting and useful though. If you live in a wet zone 8 climate the book is fantastic.
Kim Boyd
Great reference book. Love that it’s laid out by size and colour, as well as type and genus. I highly recommend this book.
