Real Madrid joins race for Mason Mount, Chelsea’s midfielder, who is being heavily linked with Liverpool this summer. As the 24-year-old approaches the end of his contract with the Blues, it seems unlikely that he’ll be signing a new deal at Stamford Bridge. Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also potential suitors for Mount, who has made 32 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions this season. Spanish outlet El Nacional reports that Real Madrid is the latest European giant to show interest in Mount, whom they believe to be a perfect replacement for Marco Asensio and former Chelsea man Eden Hazard. With Liverpool’s qualification for next season’s Champions League still hanging in the balance, they could face tough competition from Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich for Mount’s services. Despite a recent upturn in form, Chelsea sits 11 points off the Premier League top four with 11 games to go, and if Mount does stay, Europa League football is the best he can expect in 2023/24. In the meantime, Liverpool is reportedly eyeing Josko Gvardiol, ‘the next Luka Modric,’ and Benfica starlet Florentino Luis, and there could be a significant outlay of money for a much-needed rebuild this summer.
