Sarina Wiegman claims Beth Mead will not be part of England’s World Cup team except a ‘miracle’ occurs | Football News

England Manager, Sarina Wiegman, has expressed her doubt that Beth Mead will be fit for the upcoming World Cup, citing that she is not currently in their plans due to the ACL injury she sustained in November. Mead, who won the Golden Boot and player of the tournament award during the Lionesses’ victory at the Euros last year, has yet to recover fully, and Wiegman has confirmed that the World Cup is too early for her. However, Mead is optimistic about her recovery and is keen to make it back, even though realistically next season would be more practical for her. Wiegman has named a 25-player squad for the next month’s friendlies against Australia and Brazil, which includes recalls for Hannah Hampton and Esme Morgan, while Lucy Parker is the only uncapped player in the squad. With the World Cup quickly approaching, England has vast forward depth and can cover Mead’s absence.
