Newbury 2.05 Handicap Chase

According to Declan Rix, this is a very competitive renewal of the race. “You’ll need to jump and travel well because it looks to have plenty of pace on,” he says.

After analyzing the race, Rix concludes that Heltenham is the most likely winner. “He wants soft ground and a strong gallop to bring out the best in him,” Rix says. “He’s taken to fences really well, and I just think the race sets up for him.”

Sam Boswell disagrees with Rix, however. For Boswell, Riders Onthe Storm is the horse to watch. “He’s back down to his last winning mark now, and Richard Hobson, the trainer, is going well at the moment,” he says. “At 6/1, he’s worth a shot.”

Kate Tracey, who used to ride horses professionally, picks The Big Bite as her top horse. “I know he’s a horse you can’t trust, but his price [8/1] is a bit insulting,” she says. “The Greatwood Gold Cup is a great sighter for this, and a 4lb rise is manageable. I’m all in on my old mate to double up.”

Looking for a NAP pick? Declan Rix recommends Jungle Jack (3.08 – Bangor-On-Dee) while Sam Boswell suggests Totally Charming (3.25 – Curragh). Meanwhile, Kate Tracey recommends Bollingerandkrug (4.45 – Kelso).
