Tottenham’s Communication “Ineptitude” Exposed by Paratici’s Ban
The recent sacking of Antonio Conte has left Tottenham reeling with discontent, rekindling problems that have been brewing all season. Sending Managing Director Fabio Paratici to address fans in a hastily-cobbled-together video seemed an odd choice, especially as he used vague platitudes to urge fans to continue to support their “amazing” team.
Paratici’s recent worldwide ban from FIFA – due to his activities at Juventus – made the decision to send him out even more bizarre. It showed a lack of leadership from Tottenham which has been a recurring theme throughout the past sixteen months since Conte took over.
Paratici’s ban is proof that the decision to put him in front of fans was a significant error of judgement on the part of Spurs’ leadership team. The fact that the club’s primary communicator doesn’t have the skills to reassure fans or provide clarity about the future proves beyond doubt that Tottenham needs a strong leader to take the reins.
It’s time for Tottenham to communicate with fans in a more effective manner. Bayern Munich’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and club chairman Oliver Kahn have worked hard to explain the reasons behind Julian Nagelsmann’s sacking in a clear and compelling way. Tottenham should take note, and follow their example. Fans deserve better than the second-rate communication they’ve been getting so far.
