Steven Gerrard Celebrates Liverpool Goal in Charity Match, Met with Missiles Thrown by Celtic Fans as Former Rangers Boss

Steven Gerrard faces missile attack from Celtic fans after celebrating Liverpool penalty in legends game

Former Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, became a target of Celtic fans after putting his side ahead 1-0 with a penalty in a charity legendaries game played in Anfield. As Gerrard, who previously managed Celtic’s arch-rivals, Rangers, celebrated the goal, he raised his arms and jumped in front of the away end. This incited Celtic fans to throw objects at the players, forcing staff to come to the pitch to remove the debris. Despite Mark Gonzalez scoring Liverpool’s second, Gerrard’s penalty was the most significant moment of the match. Other recognisable players featured alongside Gerrard included Dirk Kuyt, Robbie Keane, and Luis Garcia.

The match was played in support of the LFC Foundation, which raises money for programmes across Merseyside.
