Harry Kane sets new record as England’s all-time leading scorer
In England’s 2-1 win over Italy, Harry Kane scored the winning penalty to become the country’s all-time leading goalscorer, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s record of 53 goals. While some have criticized him for scoring many of his goals from penalties, Kane’s all-around game and ability to evolve have made him a genuine world-class striker. He has been instrumental in England’s success over the years, with 12 goals at major tournaments, including the golden boot at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Kane’s 54 goals for England have come against 26 different teams, with San Marino being his most successful opponent. However, he has also scored four goals against Germany, including a crucial last-16 effort at Euro 2020. Kane’s lethal finishing and ability to find space in the box have been likened to the likes of Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Most of Kane’s goals come from inside the penalty box, with his only long-range effort coming against Poland in a World Cup qualifier last year. Kane has proven to be comfortable scoring away from home and neutral venues, with the vast majority of his goals coming under Gareth Southgate’s management.
Although Kane has set a new England goal-scoring record, he remains focused on the team’s success and hopes to lead them to victory in their upcoming match against Ukraine. The striker’s ability to lead and perform consistently at the highest level makes him an invaluable asset to the national team, and his record-breaking feat is testament to his talent and hard work.
